Quiz Night - 15 January 2012

A fantastic evening hosted by our very own Anne Robinson, Rev. Dr. Marjory MacLean has raised over £900. Apart from the fiendishly difficult questions which tested the mettle, Richard Fulke volunteered to have his beard shaved off for the first time in almost 40 years. Thanks to both Richard and to Campbell Ewing who did the needful. Photos from the evening can be found on our Galleries page by clicking the quiz link.

Fundraising Update October 2011

Our fundraising campaign was officially launched on Friday 8 October at the Ceilidh held in Inchture Hotel. This was a great evening with 130 tickets being sold and we raised £619. Thanks to all who helped make the evening such a success and to Banned from Abernyte for providing the music.

Update - September 2011

Dundee Presbytery has now passed our Architects Brief to the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland. We hope to hear soon that they have approved the contents. Once approved we will be in a position to appoint architects to progress with detailed plans.

A fundraising meeting was held on 12 September and was well attended. The fundraising effort will need to be sustained for at least two to three years and it was agreed to have a couple of big events each year to both sustain the fundraising profile and to bring in large sums of money. In addition to this there would be a number of smaller ongoing fundraising activities eg smartie tubes, selling cakes etc

The fundraising campaign will be officially launched at our ceilidh on 7 October in Inchture Hotel. If you don't already have your tickets - get them soon!

A dedicated website for the fundraising is being developed and will have details of everything we are doing as well as having the capacity to accept online donations. Facebook and Twitter accounts are also being developed to spread the news as widely as possible and to encourage as many as possible to become involved.

A link will be available from this website shortly.

Information will also be updated in both the Church and Village newsletters for those who do not have internet access.

INCHTURE CHURCH DEVELOPMENTS - UPDATE August 2011

Inchture and Kinnaird Church is progressing with plans for
major redevelopment at Inchture Church to ensure the accommodation is fit for purpose in the 21stcentury. It is envisaged that the work will be
undertaken in two phases.

Phase one is planned to include a new entry with
kitchen, toilets and vestry as well as making the building wind and watertight
with new electrical and heating system.

Phase two is planned to upgrade the sanctuary and include
two or three meeting rooms and a gallery to the rear of the church.

It is anticipated that the work will be completed by August
2015.

An architect's brief has been prepared and is currently with
the Dundee Presbytery. We are hopeful that the General
Trustees will approve the brief and support the funding to allow us to engage
architects to develop more detailed plans. When plans are available it is the
intention to hold a further series of consultations to enable everyone to have
an input into the developments. We are very aware of the sensitivities around
such a major undertaking and want to ensure that as far as possible we take
these into account and would urge everyone to take the opportunity to attend
any consultative events that are planned.

It is envisaged the cost will be in the region of £1,000,000
and it is hoped that much of this will be available in the form of grants.
However, a major fundraising effort will be required to cover the difference
which, we anticipate being in the region of £250,000 to £300,000. Our official
fundraising will be launched at the Harvest Ceilidh on 7 October.

If you would like to become involved in planning our
fundraising, a meeting will be held in Inchture Church on

Monday 12 September at 7.30p.m. and to coin a phrase - "ALL WELCOME".

Update September 2010

Steering Group The group has established a small sub group to make the necessary preparations for obtaining a feasibility study for our developments. The General Trustees will support us financially to have a feasibility study done but first of all require us to prepare a brief and give an indication of potential budget that would be available. The sub group has met once and members have gone off to undertake some research before meeting again in mid October to hopefully pull together the information required by the General Trustees. Watch this space for further news.

BBQ A successful and enjoyable BBQ was held in Kinnaird on the village green in front of the Church. This was held as part of our efforts to make people aware that the Church is a community resource and is available for use. Feedback from the BBQ was very good and many thanks are due to Brenda Laing and her band of helpers for all their efforts in organising the day AND the food!! Photographs from the BBQ can be found on our gallery pages.

Church Development Steering Committee Update - June 2010

The first meeting of the Church Steering Committee was held on April 26th. This committee is the group formed after the initial review of the Church Questionnaires which were circulated around both Inchture and Kinnaird a few months ago. The objective of the committee is to act on the feedback received so that both Churches can maximise their potential and play a bigger role at the heart of the communities served.

A few defined action plans were agreed:-

  • A review of the various activities that have been suggested the Church building could be used for going forward

  • A "skills audit" from people within both communities

  • A review of any structural changes required in either church building to accommodate the various requirements

The committee will work on putting forward proposals - to then circulate back to the community for alignment.

An immediate request for those people reading this article would be to give some feedback on some of the activities that are being proposed:

Immediate activities to implement soon:

Hymn / Choir practice, Monthly Sunday Evening Services, Family After School Services

Future activities that may require some structural work:

Mother and Toddler Groups, Coffee Mornings, Youth / After School Clubs, Arts and Craft Classes, Men's Groups, Saturday film club for children, Sunshine Hour for over 60's, Rock Gospel Group,

In the next few weeks we will put some comments boxes in both church vestries, the Inchture shop and post office (hopefully!) and we would welcome ideas and feedback to be submitted.

Finally, for any of you out there with a skill (and we all have our own unique skills!) whether it is a trade (plumber, builder etc), a profession (architect, nurse, music teacher etc) or simply just have some time available to help support some of these activities, we would love to hear from you.

Update - April 2010

Inchture & Kinnaird Development Questionnaires achieved a 10% return which, although a little disappointing, produced plenty of ideas and comments about what the churches could be doing for the future, and these, in turn, generated lively and interesting discussion at the Feedback Event at Inchture Hotel on 10th March. A number of themes developed from the discussion, viz :

  • Flexibility of buildings
  • Alternative times/styles of worship

  • Being proactive in our communities and being visible - not stuffy!

  • Openness in communication

  • Funding

A Steering Group was established to develop a draft Business Plan, for consultation as widely as possible with members of the community. Members of the Steering Group are: Rev Robbie Donald, Rev Liz Kay, Menna Jefferies, Mac Roberts, Lorna Tunstall, Alison Page, Patricia MacFadyen, Euan Smith, Nancy Robertson and Brenda Laing. The first meeting of the Steering Group will be Tuesday 27th April at 7.30pm in Inchture Church.

Church Development Questionnaire - February 2010

Hopefully, you have completed and returned the questionnaire which was delivered recently to your home. We look forward to reading your views on how our churches can be developed to meet the needs of our growing community. The results of our survey will be analysed and a feedback event has been arranged for Wednesday 10th March at 7.30pm, to which all interested are invited. A Steering Group will be formed to take things forward.
